Perfect Moisturizer for Your Skin Type

Comparing Skin Types and the Perfect Moisturizer

By Dr.Samina
Soft, supple skin depends on moisturizers to keep it smooth and sexy. Consider your skin type and how your skin responds to different skincare products when choosing an appropriate product for you. Whether your skin is young or mature, oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination of these, the perfect moisturizing solution for you is out there.

Skin Types

While we all need moisturizers, different skin types tend to benefit best from certain moisturizing products that are created with specific skin types in mind. Varying skin types also call for different frequency of moisturizing.

The most common skin types include dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, and sensitive skin. Read on to match your skin type to an effective moisturizing regimen.

Dry Skin
With constant exposure to the elements sun, wind or chemicals like chlorine, skin can become dry without warning. Skin that does not produce the right amount of natural oils also becomes dry. It is best to moisturize dry skin heavily with an oil-based moisturizer. When skin returns to its normal condition, decrease the frequency of moisturizing as desired.

Oily Skin
Even oily skin can be soft, smooth, clean, and beautiful with the right skincare routine. Caring for oily skin is frustrating, but the proper combination of cleansing, exfoliating, toning, and moisturizing makes all the difference. For skin that is excessively oily, a gentle and oil-free moisturizer works best. Also try water-based moisturizers to avoid adding any additional oils to the skin.

Combination Skin
Combination skin can be oily, normal, or dry, all at once or one or the other at random. Care for combination skin with a varied routine. Moisturize frequently with an oil-based moisturizer when skin is dry. When skin takes on an oily texture, switch to a water-based, gentle moisturizer. If skin shows signs of both types, seek a moisturizer made especially for combination skin.

Sensitive Skin
Because skin is sensitive to different cleansers, chemicals, and naturally occurring elements, the best approach to caring for sensitive skin is a gentle one. For the best care and protection, pick moisturizers that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. Use as needed.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment

It really depends on who looks at it, but hair found on the face, on the back, on the chest, under the arms, on the legs and in the bikini area is generally thought to be unsightly. Such unwanted hair prevents us from wearing some types of clothes, like sleeveless tops, skirts or skimpy bikinis. It also affects our self-confidence to a certain degree.

We women really spend some time and effort into getting rid of the unwanted hair on our bodies. Shaving is the most convenient way of doing it, but also the most time consuming. Sometimes, shaving the underarms and the legs can be a daily chore, and it puts us at risk of having in-grown hair. Some women resort to plucking and waxing, but oh boy, don't they hurt. Besides, they grow back, anyway.

There is a way, however, of dealing with unwanted hair more permanently, and that is undergoing laser hair removal treatment. In laser hair removal treatment, a dermatological surgeon focuses a laser on the part of the skin that is to be treated. The laser then creates a reaction in the melanin in the hair follicles of the treated area. The reaction is supposed to make the hair strand shed and to discourage the hair follicle from producing new cells that will lead to hair growth. Laser hair removal treatment takes four to six sessions to complete, as hair enters different phases of growth.

Laser hair removal treatment, however, works best only with people who have fair skin and dark hair. The laser machine is set to react to the melanin in the skin, so dark-skinned people stand the risk of having their skin being burned by the laser. The laser focused by the machine also generally does not react to blond or red hair, because hair with such colors does not have enough melanin in the strands.

If you think you are a good candidate for laser hair removal treatment, the first thing you should do is to check out the dermatological clinics in your area. You can come up with a list from the phone directory or from the Internet. Look for a clinic where the one operating the laser machine is a real doctor specializing in dermatology or cosmetic surgery. If you are comfortable with it, you can also go for clinics where the machine is run by technicians, as long as there is a doctor supervising the session. Read reviews as you make your list, or you can ask your friends or family members who have undergone the treatment for recommendations.

Once you have picked a clinic, the next step would be to make an initial consultation with the doctor of your choice. Visit the clinic and take note of how clean the premises are and how friendly and helpful the personnel in the clinic are. When you come face to face with the doctor, ask him questions about the field he or she is in, about the machine he or she is using, and the credentials he or she has. Ask as well what form of payment the clinic accepts.

If you already feel confident with your choice, then go ahead and make a schedule for your first session. On every session, all the people involved in the treatment - the doctor, the technician and you - should be wearing eye protection. After all, it is laser you people will be handling, so it is important to keep the eyes protected on every treatment. The treatment is not really painful, but the doctor or the technician will nonetheless apply a gel on your skin to make it numb.

The parameters of the laser hair removal treatment, such as the condition of the skin on the area to be treated and the condition of the hair, will be entered into the machine. The laser will then be allowed to pulse on the skin briefly to check if the data entered on the machine is correct, and then the treatment commences.

After every session, take a couple of days off to rest if you think it is necessary. Keep the treated area clean and moisturized, and use only products that are gentle on the skin. Avoid exposing yourself to the sun, because if your skin gets darker, the effectiveness of the succeeding sessions might lessen considerably. If there is a little swelling, apply an ice pack or cover the skin with soft and clean cloths soaked in ice water to relieve the swelling.

It is possible for complications to arise after each session of the treatment. If the swelling does not go away and blistering of the skin is present, you should go and see the doctor who did the treatment on you as much as possible. They should be equipped to handle such complications.

Laser hair removal treatment is a good way of getting rid of unwanted hair permanently. However, you must remember that this treatment is not for everybody. Consider your choices carefully before going through the process.

How To Shake Dandruff Flakes Away

If you have dandruff, do not worry about being alone with your problem. With one out of every two people in the entire world having, or having had, that same problem as yours, you are definitely not alone with it. Dandruff is a common hair problem. Embarrassing indeed, but a very, very common problem nonetheless.

What causes dandruff? Well, you see, our entire skin, from our scalps to the soles of our feet, sheds dead skin cells on a daily basis. We get a complete coating of new skin every 28 days or so, but we hardly even notice it.

Our bodies also play host to a lot of microorganisms like bacteria and fungi, feeding off on the sebaceous oils that our skin produces. Our scalp in particular is home to a kind of fungus called malassezia fungus, and its food is the oils produced by the hair follicles of our scalp. Dandruff happens when, for some reason or another, the malassezia fungus goes crazy and irritates our scalp, causing the dead skin to shed a lot faster. So, instead of shedding the dead skin cells of our scalp for a month, the shedding happens in less than two weeks, and the oil that our hair follicles produce cause these dead skin cells to clump together and become dandruff. Until now, the factors that trigger this phenomenon with the malassezia fungus are still the subject of research.

Dandruff is an embarrassing hair condition, and it can recur despite your best efforts. But with proper hair care, the recurrence of dandruff can be controlled. The best way to keep the flakes at bay is to shampoo your hair every day - picture perfect hair.

Dandruff can, of course, become stubborn, so if washing everyday with your regular shampoo does not stop the flakes from becoming haywire, the next best thing to do would be to start using anti-dandruff shampoos. Look for anti-dandruff shampoos with zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, salicylic acid or ketoconazole as the active ingredient. To keep your scalp from developing immunity to these shampoos, go ahead and rotate brands at least once a month.

For optimum results, you can lather your hair with the shampoo of your choice twice. The first wash will clear the scalp of the flakes and the oil buildup. The second one would let the chemicals in the shampoo get absorbed by the scalp

You can also try homemade remedies to wash the flakes away and to keep the dandruff from recurring.
What is considered the best homemade remedy to dandruff is a vinegar wash.

Mix two teaspoons of vinegar
with six teaspoons of water

rub it against your scalp before you go to bed, then wrap your head with a towel. Apply the same solution to your hair once again in the morning when you wake up, then rinse it with water. You do not have to worry about the smell of vinegar in your hair, as the smell of vinegar does evaporate eventually.

Lip Care Tips

Morning Lips
Make your lips soft and smooth by giving dry, flaky lips the brush-off. Every morning 'brush your lips ' with a soft baby toothbrush and then apply some lip balm to your lips.

Bed Time Lips
Before going to bed you should apply the moisturizing cream on your lips. Do so regularly every night and you will wake up every morning with softer lips.

Every Day Lips
You should try to avoid over exposure to the sunrays as they can absorb moisture of your lips and make them dry. If you have to spend a lot of time outdoors, then you should go for 'triple lipstick ', with moisturizers and sunscreen built right in.

Party Lips
Time for party means time for high profile lips, which are possible through those fruit-flavored lip-glosses. For that ultra-gloss look you should apply a dash of metallic lip-gloss over the lipstick in the center of your lips.

Glossy Baby Lips
The lip-gloss is more fashionable as compared to the lipstick. And it is applicable at all the occasions. It can help you get those baby lips with a hint of pink and a natural shine.

Silky, Shiny, and Vibrant are three words that can describe a luscious pair of lips smoothed with lip-gloss.
Lip-gloss can be a delightful treat for a young girl or for a kiss. Making your own lip-gloss can be fun, exciting and tasty.

Lips are the most sensitive part of our body and therefore require constant nurturing. Thus, it is of prime importance to pay attention to your lips.

Bridal Beauty

Every bride deserves to be the very special lady of the day and look her best. The hairdo, the makeup, the bridal trousseau and how the bride conducts herself is the focus of everybody's attention on this day and you will certainly feel much more comfortable, if you have already done the dress rehearsal first. Here are some useful tips for the bride:

    * To cover the reddish skin, use sheer color corrector and apply tinted moisturizer of yellowish green or olive green shade to neutralize it.
    * Pink color blush is not for the wedding day, generally speaking. Try bronzer under cheekbones instead.
    * Bright lip colors may be warm such as orange-red, orange-gold, copper and warm beiges, creams and caramels or cool such as fuchsia, magenta, blue-reds, shades of lilac and pink and make lips look plusher and fuller.
    * Deep warm lip colors such as yellowish and orangish browns; mahogany, deep warm reds and chocolate and deep cool shades such as cool brown, taupe, deep purple, plum and blue-toned burgundy underplay too much thickness of lips.

    * The subtle look can be achieved by using the air-brush a lot and sticking to light shades such as cream, gold, lime green and brown for warm skin undertones and lilac, plums and soft pink for cool skin undertones.
    * Neutrals are the safest choice to make you seem a bride endowed with natural beauty.
    * Be sure to coordinate you overall look: all the colors should have either warm or cool tone while your hair, make-up, jewelry and gown should correspond to the carefully chosen theme.
    * Hairstyle is usually chosen, after completing the makeup to suit the looks of the bride.
    * If you are not used to wearing heavy makeup, keep your hands away from blue and green eye shadows.
    * For olive and dusky skinned ladies, maroons and brown lip colors are the safest bet as well as the golden tones.
    * Hairstyles are often adorned with pearls, rhinestones, flower buds, golden lace, satin ribbons, jeweled hair bands and tiaras among other hair ornaments and may range from the simplest French braid or bud to complex and elaborate hairdos.
    * Bridal makeup includes all the attention to the minutest of details. Don't overlook them for the finished look.
    * A timeless makeup look will keep your wedding snaps fresher forever, so try not to give in to the fads of the day.
    * Cream foundation with a high pigment level is recommended.
    * Don't forget to cover your neck, chest, area behind your ears with foundation and makeup too.
    * Morning weddings need natural look makeup while evening weddings need more formally adorned brides with darker makeup shades.
    * Lighting also determines your makeup. A well-lit area uses lighter colors while deeper tones are good for darker areas. Fluorescent lighting will add a greenish tinge to everything so avoid green shades.
    * Try not to be too dramatic but there is a secret seldom revealed: red lipstick makes teeth appear whiter!

Skin Care Tips - Exfoliation Reveals Beautiful Skin

microdermabrasion on the doctorsOne of the best things you can do for your skin to keep it healthy and beautiful is regular exfoliation. When you exfoliate, you cleanse away pore clogging oils and pollutants. You also scrub off dead skin cells, revealing the fresh, beautiful skin underneath.

There are several ways to exfoliate, as Dr. Drew Ordon discusses today on The Doctors. He suggests professional microdermabrasion treatments to refresh the skin. With a combination of gentle abrasion and suction, the layer of dead skin is lifted, showing smoother skin below. This new layer is largely free from sun damage and fine lines and pore size are minimized. Many people also use this treatment to successfully remove and diminish crows feet and acne scars. Several sessions are needed and each treatment costs about $100-$300.
Exfoliation at home is also an option to keep skin at its best. Dr. Ordon recommends the Olay Pro-X device to scrub away impurities. Though not as powerful as professional microdermabrasion, with regular use patients can see similar results. The Olay Pro-X is available at most pharmacies for around $30.
Making your own exfoliating scrub at home is easy and only requires a few
common ingredients. One simple DIY scrub is made with coffee, sugar and vanilla. Combine 1/4 cup of olive oil and a teaspoon of vanilla extract in a bowl and separately, combine 1/2 cup fresh coffee grinds and one cup of sugar. Add the mixtures together to make a thick paste and apply it in the shower. First wash thoroughly, then rub the exfoliating scrub all over. Rinse completely, towel dry, and then apply a good body lotion for the best results. This scrub is not for use on the face or sensitive skin.
Consistent skin care is your best bet for healthy skin now and in the future. Taking care of this important organ now can help spare you expensive laser and surgical treatments down the line.

Weight Loss Tips: The Best Fruit for Your Diet

We all know fruit is good for us. It is a natural source of sugar, fiber, and vitamins that give you energy and help your immune system. However, some authorities discourage fruit on weight loss diets because of its high fructose content. It is true, all fruit is not equal when you are trying to lose weight. Here are our recommendations for the fruit you should consume in your diet to keep you on track.
fruit when dieting
  1. Grapefruit - Grapefruit has narginen, which is actually a fat-burning ingredient. Ivan Blasquez, with BodyBuilding.com, did his research and found that grapefruit also contains a relatively high amount of HMB, a metabolite of leucine that has been shown to promote muscle mass accretion.
  2. Pear - Pears are not only delicious, but they are also low in calories and low on the glycemic index. The glycemic index is basically a rating of how different carbohydrates affect your blood sugar. You don't want to spike your blood sugar because that will cause insulin to store fat. For instance, white bread would be around a 70. The high range is between 70 and 100. Low glycemic carbs are below 50. Pears are around 36. So you get the sweetness without the negative consequences.
  3. Green Apple - Apples are also around 36 on the glycemic index and are a great source of fiber. If you don't know, fiber helps keep your "regular" and as you age you need more and more of it. Apples have about 5g of fiber per serving and they taste much better than some fiber products out there.
  4. Bananas - Bananas are another good source of fiber, containing about 4g per serving. Bananas catch a lot of heat for the high sugar content, but in reality they only have about 25-27g of sugar and a glycemic index of about 51. Bananas are one of the best sources of potassium as well. We recommend eating them with breakfast because it's a great way to start the day.
  5. Berries - Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries. All these delectable little fruits are packed with antioxidants (which help fight signs of aging and free radicals) and the vitamins you will also find in the aforementioned fruits, Vitamins C, A, and B to be exact.

Five steps for perfect skin- (Home facials like salon)

This treatment takes about 45 minutes and, for best results, should be done atleast once or twice a month. This one is simple, inexpensive treatment, you can be assured of healthier, glowing skin within two or three months.

Step1: Cleansing

Good cleansing removes the impurities, bacteria and dead cells that accumulate on the surface of the epidermis as well as any residue from makeup, while leaving as much of the lubricating natural oil(or sebum) as possible. A cleanser should therefore be gentle and natural. Use a non-lathering cleansing. Massage in circular movements over the face and neck. Leave on for 1-2 minutes to dissolve grime and old make-up. Then gently wipe off with cotton swabs. Rinse off with warm water. Once in a while, or on a more regular basis for those with oily skin, a clay or fruit or oat-based cleansing mask used for a deeper cleansing action.

Step 2: Herbal facial steam

One traditional and very simple way to deep clean the skin is to steam your face for a few minutes. Steaming removes dirt and pollution very efficiently from the skin, but it removes important natural oils as well. So, although the technique brings excellent results on an oily skin or anyone suffering from acne, most skin types must bear in mind that in the long term it has a drying effect.
Steaming should therefore be used very occasionally on a dry or aging skin (once in a month is  the maximum) and never for more than 2-3 minutes. On a oily skin, it can be done once a week, and for 5-8 minutes. For a combination skin, 2-3 minutes once a week is recommended maximum. A normal skin will benefit form an occasional steaming (every two weeks) as long as the exposure to steam is not prolonged (5 minutes maximum). It is not recommended for extremely sensitive skins.
Select  an herbal facial steam that’s best for your skin type.
Bring the dry herbs (lavender, chamomile, lemon grass, rosemary, etc.) to a boil in a large pot of water. Remove from heat source; steam for 5 minutes. A facial steam is the best possible way for deep pore cleansing, and each of the herbs used in rich in nutrients that nourish and tone the skin. Immediately after your facial steam, rinse your face with cold water.

Step 3: Facials

Facials are excellent for stimulating circulation to the skin. It brings fresh blood to the skin. They promote deep pore cleansing and help heal blemishes and acne. Facials also help tone and firm the skin.
They are several kinds of facials available. You can try some homemade facial masks (clay mask, honey mask, egg mask, oats mask, fruits and vegetables mask, etc) to get a beautiful skin.

Step 4: Tonic  astringents

When the facial is completely dry, rinse off with warm water. Be gentle to your skin while rinsing of the facial material. Use soft, circular motions. Massage your skin; do not scrub it. Immediately after rinsing the facial, apply an astringent preparation to tone and close the pores.

Step 5: Moisturiser

Dot the skin with moisturiser and gently massage it in smooth circular movements. Try to do this slowly as it allows you to massage the skin and relax yourself. Apply vitamin E oil or, a small amount of eye cream around the eyes and gently pat it in with your finger. The tapping action helps relieve puffy eyelids and also stimulates the acupressure points around the eyes.

Beauty Tips: How To Apply Cat Eye Makeup

While Angelina Jolie is well known for her famous for her style, fashion sense and bold cat eye makeup, you can have the same look using inexpensive cosmetics from drugstore brands like Cover Girl and Loreal. The cat eye makeup look has been around for hundreds of years, with Angelina Jolie obviously not being the first to rock this look. In fact, Cleopatra was well known for her cat eye makeup and was likely the first documented female who sported this fun and sexy eye makeup trend.
Use these beauty tips to learn how to use liner and mascara to create a sensual cat eye makeup look!
  • Cat eye makeup starts with a major choice. You must decide if you want to take on this task of trying to apply cat eye makeup liner with a liquid liner or a pencil liner. If you’re new to applying liner, pencil liner is much more forgiving. But, liquid can give you bolder results. To figure out which works best for you, it’s a great idea to try out both. You can also find liquid pen liner which is kind of the best of both worlds offering easy application and bold color! When choosing the liquid pen, be sure you find the shortest pen tip available because it will give you the most control possible. You can choose any dark color but black is obviously the most common choice for this task.
  • Before you start with the liner however, you must prime your eyelid area. Most people choose not to use bold shadow when they are doing cat eye makeup. So, go for a neutral highlighting shadow and sweep it over your entire eyelid before you start with the eyeliner. A shimmery shadow can help you get the sexy look you’re looking for.
  • After you gather your eyeliner, simply set up a hands-free mirror. If you have a magnified mirror, you’ll have better vision throughout the process. After all, when you apply liner you’ll want to be able to clearly see what you’re doing!
  • Starting with the inner corner of the eye, touch the pen lightly to the lashline and drag it toward the outer corner of the eye. The main point here is to draw the line as close to the lash line as you possibly can. A thin line to start is fine. You can always go back and fatten it up to get better results and shape.
  • As you get to the end of your lash line, you can slightly turn the line upward toward your temple. The length of the shade line is up to you but you can always shorten it if you overdo it by dipping a Q-tip in makeup remover and erasing the edge of the line. The placement of the winged tip is more crucial to the beauty results than the length.
  • After you have the eyeliner perfectly applied, it’s time to work on your lashes. For the most dramatic look, false eyelashes are a great option. However, you can learn to do use your own lashes for this as well. If you don’t want to try false lashes, simply start by using an eyelash curler on your lashes. Hold it in place for ten seconds and then immediately apply bold black mascara to the lashes. Allow them to dry and do the same for the other eye. Then add another coat of bold black mascara to finish them off.

Choosing the Right Red Lipstick Color For Your Skin Tone

When worn properly, red lipstick can make a lady look and feel sensual, feminine and sexy! However, if you happen to choose the wrong shade of red you can end up looking more like a clown than a vixen. So, be careful when choosing the right red lipstick for your skin tone.

If you’d love to glam it up with red lipstick this season, use these helpful tips on how to choose the right red lipstick!
How To Test Lipstick Properly
Unless you want to waste money on colors that just don’t work with your skin tone, it’s best to visit a cosmetic counter where you can actually try out red lipsticks before you buy them. Some drug stores will offer a color change policy, where you can bring your unwanted lipstick back with the receipt to exchange it for another shade. But, there are very few who do offer such a guarantee and many will only let you make one exchange per product, which can lead to difficulty if you swap for an even less flattering color the second time around. In addition, some brands like Revlon will offer you a color guide near their product display, to help you choose the best shade by skin tone.
Trying the lipstick on is the best way to see how it looks. Attempting to rub it on your hand to test the shade is pretty pointless, as it will always look different on your lips. So, visit your local Clinique counter or department store cosmetics counter to test some shades out!

Skin Tone Considerations
To start with, be sure you pick shades of red that complement and work with your skin tone. Your skin tone is either warm or cool, with cool skin tones often being paler and full of pink undertones. Warm skin tones are most often darker olive shades, with blue undertones.
If your skin is a cool tone, be sure to look for reds with pink undertones. Many reds come in shades of Berry, Blackberry, Brick or Plum, which are ideal for cool toned ladies. Red with blue undertones are also known to have a visually whitening effect on your teeth, which is always a plus.
If your skin is a warm tone, look for reds with yellow undertones. Many times you’ll find flattering red lipsticks in orange shades, warm shades, tomato red shades, brown based shades, golden shades or tawny shades.
Some beauty experts will still argue the classic primary red lipstick will work on all skin tones, however!
The Way To Wear Red Lipstick
While wearing the perfect red lipstick can make you look like a super sexy vixen in any outfit, it’s important not to go overboard with the rest of your makeup when you choose red for your lips. If you want to wear red lipstick, let it be the star of your face. Don’t try to do a dramatic eye with shadow or overdo it on blush, or you’ll look like you have far too much makeup on. Pair your red lips with neutral eye shadows, black mascara and thin liner. Add in a little blush that has the same undertone colors of your lipstick, but take it light. You can add a little glamour to your face with highlighter instead, so you’ll look radiant without looking like you’ve tried too hard. The color red works for any season, from spring to winter, so be sure to find a great shade that will take you through the entire year.

Most ladies select red lipstick in the evening to feel glamorous, you can also choose to wear it for daytime hours. Just tone it down a bit. Layer your favorite red lipstick lightly over a sheer gloss, to make it less heavy and less dark.

Mica Makeup and Cosmetics Complete the 1980’s Look

Before there was pure mineral makeup, there was mica for eye shadow. Mica is a highly reflective mineral, which makes for strong color and a lasting look. Ground fine, it provides all the glam of glitter without the grit or flakiness, because mica makes a powder so smooth, you can't even feel it once it's on. It's exotic, romantic and lush. In the '70s and '80s, mica was de rigueur for eye shadow, evening contours, dusting on shoulder blades and all sorts of other groovy places. A little pot of mica shadow will last you about fourteen years, unless you decide that it's so cool as a cosmetic that it would look even better swiped onto a wet paintbrush and smeared across a pure white wall in an iridescent rainbow. Then, you might need to buy a second pot. Mica is also great because you can find it all a lot of different colors ranging from black to purple to white, but all iridescent and shiny.

Unless you're planning to cover your entire body with mica, it's easier to apply it damp, either with a sponge or a brush. It's great worked into moisturizer or mixed with lip balm or even put into nail polish. It's inert, so if it gets in your mouth it won't hurt you, but it will still bother your eyes like any dust would, so be careful applying it around the eye area. Because it's so fine, it can be flyaway otherwise, and truly untidy. But it's so much fun to experiment with, you may just decide to buy a big powder puff and go for it.
