Warts on the Face

Read This Before You See a Doctor

Warts on the face can bother people especially young women a lot. In serious cases, they can even affect the self-esteem and confidence of the males. In a society that lays much importance on the appearance, it’s just natural that everyone who has got warts on the face would like to get rid of them. But is putting on over-the-counter medication or consulting a doctor the best solution? Is there any natural way of removing warts?

Warts are caused by a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). They often occur on the fingers, hands, elbows and knees. Warts on the face, being flat and pink, are called flat warts or facial warts. Warts can also happen to the bottom of the feet and even on the genitals, making the sufferer feel very uncomfortable.

To prevent getting warts, you should pay attention to personal hygiene and wash your hands and face regularly. You should also avoid sharing towels or other objects with people suffering from warts. People with warts must not scratch them or they may spread to other areas of the skin. Given this infectious nature of warts, it’s natural that most would like to get rid of warts on the face before the area enlarges.

There are several treatments to remove warts on the face and other parts of the body. One common over-the-counter medication is salicylic acid. When applied to the warts, the medicine removes the dead skin cells, causing the warts to eventually fall off. The process can last for several weeks and the medication should be adopted only when the user is sure that his skin problem is confined to warts, not anything else. This treatment, however, is not applicable to plantar and genital warts.

Another common treatment for warts is cryotherapy which involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. Of course, you can also remove the wart surgically or with laser treatment. But these methods are not preferable as they are expensive, can cause pain and with warts on the face, many also worry that they may leave a scar.

To avoid painful, costly treatments and scarring, most people are ready to jump for natural cures to remove their warts if there is really one. This is especially true to warts on the face where scars would be most noticeable.
